My Very First Boat Ride En Route to Surigao
Friday, July 20, 2012 I went on my very first boat ride en route to Surigao. The distance between Cebu and Surigao is approximately 120 miles and it took almost 13 hours before we finally docked at Surigao Wharf. A day, prior to this trip it had rained through the night because of the low pressure area off the Visayas Region so I was not sure if I should pursue this trip. My plan B if the weather condition worsens and the Philippine Coast Guard won't allow the vessel to leave the port, then I should pursue my flight to Siargao. Yes I have booked a round trip ticket to Siargao beforehand. I just had a slight change in my itinerary. I gave up my Siargao trip for the Enchanted River in Hinatuan and Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

I am more excited than scared for this long boat ride but was a bit anxious because a portion of my brain is telling me that about the possibility that the vessel could sink anytime especially that the waves in Surigao are really huge plus the LPA. To distract myself and manage the anxiety, I keep myself busy by taking pictures of the Cebu Skyline as it vanishes into the horizon and talking to co-passengers.
My eyes are widely awake until 12:00 midnight because the ship/vessel sways when hit by violent waves. I just reassured myself that the ship vessel I was riding could withstand the rogue waves. At 6:00 in the morning, I am already awake and a bright sun greeted us in Surigao - a sign that a great adventure lies ahead of us. It was also my first time to see Badjao kids diving for coins as we approach Surigao Wharf.
